About this oil filled shock

Colour is the only difference people notice and the fit list is the one that matters: these cover five chassis codes including the H16GT and the H16SC. We anodise rather than paint the caps so the finish survives being clamped in a shock tool. Bleed them upright if you ever open them, and leave the smallest bubble — a shock filled completely will not compress its last few millimetres.

Those codes are stamped on the chassis plate under the body; photographs are a poor guide at this scale, because neighbouring versions differ by a couple of millimetres and look identical. If the plate on your car is unreadable, send us a picture with the shell off and we will tell you which version you have.

Living with it

Replace across an axle rather than one corner at a time. A fresh shock opposite a tired one makes a car that turns differently left and right, which is harder to drive than two tired shocks.

Are these sold singly or in pairs?

As listed on the card. Shocks come in pairs so that an axle always gets matched damping; arms are sold both ways depending on the part.

My truck bounces after landings. Is this the fix?

If the shock body is wet with oil, yes. If the shaft is bent and the corner stays down, you need the unit rather than a rebuild.
