About this spur gear

Pinions wear faster than spurs for simple geometry: fewer teeth take the same work more often. Putting steel on the pinion and keeping the spur in a quieter material is the trade we have settled on for this chassis. Fit them as a pair and set the mesh with the motor loose, then tighten the mounts. It covers the H14BM and the 14209 and 14210 chassis.

Those codes are stamped on the chassis plate under the body; photographs are a poor guide at this scale, because neighbouring versions differ by a couple of millimetres and look identical. If the plate on your car is unreadable, send us a picture with the shell off and we will tell you which version you have.

Living with it

Set gear mesh with a strip of paper between the teeth, tighten, then pull the paper out. Replace shafts in pairs across an axle so the car tracks straight under power.

Do I need to replace the pinion as well?

If you are replacing a worn spur, yes — they wear as a pair and a fresh gear against a worn pinion will whine and fail again quickly.

It is supplied sealed and fitted as a unit. We do not sell the internal gears separately.
